What are the required application materials for the General/Flagship fellowship program?
The following materials must be submitted by 11:59 PM Eastern on Wednesday Oct. 26th, 2022:
- COMPLETED ONLINE APPLICATION FORM
- 1 RESUME
- 1 UNOFFICIAL COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPT from the US-accredited undergraduate institution you received a degree from. If you did not attend a US-accredited institution for undergrad, you must submit an unofficial transcript from the US-accredited graduate program you received a degree from. Graduating students should submit their most recent transcript.
- 1 OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT from the US-accredited undergraduate institution you received a degree from. If you did not attend a US-accredited institution for undergrad, you must submit an official transcript from the US-accredited graduate program you received a degree from. Graduating seniors should submit their most recent transcript. The official transcript must be emailed directly from an online transcript verification service such as Parchment, Credentials Solutions or The National Student Clearinghouse, or directly from your institution’s registrar’s office, to piafapp@princetoninafrica.org. An OFFICIAL transcript can only be emailed to PiAf if your university provides official transcripts in an electronic format. These transcripts are considered official documents and can be validated because they have been digitally signed and certified by your institution. If your university does not offer electronic official transcripts, please contact your university’s registrar’s office for more information about ordering an official transcript. Most universities can provide an official digital transcript but if yours does not, email piafapp@princetoninafrica.org after contacting your registrar to ask for your options. Again we are not accepting hard copy materials.
- 1 LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION* Your recommender should upload your Letter of Recommendation using this LOR Form. Recommendation letters must be specific to your PiAf application and should focus on your character, leadership and past job/internship performance. The letter must be signed, dated and submitted as a PDF.
*Please be sure to request your recommendation letters well in advance and follow up with your recommender to ensure the letter of recommendation is submitted by the deadline. Your recommender can input your email address into the LOR Form so that you will receive a notification once your LOR has been submitted. PiAf cannot assist in coordinating this process or confirm the submission of letters of recommendation.
PLEASE NOTE: As of 9/17/22 Princeton in Africa will no longer require applicants to pay a $75 non-refundable application fee. If you have already sent payment to Princeton in Africa through Paypal, you will receive a refund.

Our History
In 1999, a group of Princeton alumni, faculty, and staff launched Princeton in Africa as an independent affiliate of Princeton University inspired by the University’s informal motto, “Princeton in the Nation’s Service and in the Service of All Nations.” In 2010, the program opened up to include graduates of any US accredited university in order to meet the growing demand from host organizations and allow more young professionals access to the unique opportunities afforded by PiAf. During the past 20 years, we have placed over 600 Fellows with more than 100 organizations in 36 countries, while developing more strategic partnerships across Africa and creating more opportunities for our alumni community to engage with the continent and with one another.
